Beyond Bedrooms: Are Custom Cabinet Systems Only for Bedrooms?

Having worked with many clients and many storage solutions over the years, I can say that a lot of people think custom cabinet systems are only for the bedroom. There are walk-in closets in the master bedroom, kids’ closets in the children’s rooms, and usually reach-in closets in the remaining guest rooms. However, I’ve found lots of ways that custom cabinets can enhance other rooms of the house, too.

Some of the non-bedroom spaces that can benefit from custom cabinet systems include:

  • The Kitchen
  • The Home Office
  • The Living Room
  • Bathrooms and Utility Rooms

Let’s get started on learning more about how these custom storage solutions can positively affect your entire home!

The Kitchen

The kitchen is often the busiest room of the home, whether you’re the one preparing the meals or eating them. There’s regular restocking that needs to be done, cleaning up after meals, and plenty of time to spend with family and friends. It’s no wonder that it can get disorganized!

I like looking at the kitchen pantry as a place to streamline storage and make all of these tasks easier. A custom cabinet system in this area provides lots of options for homeowners. For example, you can use it as a place to store pots, pans, and small appliances that would otherwise be taking up valuable counter and cabinet space.

It’s also the perfect place to keep ingredients ranging from canned products to spices in good order. Lose the frustration of not being able to find the cumin or lemon pepper when you need it, as it will be at your fingertips. Knowing where your ingredients are prevents overbuying and dinnertime mishaps.

The Home Office

Maximizing the storage space in your home office is an excellent way to boost your productivity. If there’s not already a cabinet in the space, I recommend having a custom credenza or armoire installed.

Your cabinet system will give you the space you need to store your office supplies and files. You can have custom-fit drawers installed for you, or you can simply place a file cabinet in the cabinet itself – keeping it out of the way but convenient to access when needed. Supplies, like paper and pens, printer cartridges, and industry-specific materials, can also go in the cabinet.

The Living Room

You might not have a custom storage system built into your living room, but that’s fine; you can use a variety of different options. I am personally a fan of Murphy beds, as they serve a dual purpose. Most of the time, they exist as a storage space with various drawers, cabinets, and shelves. When you have an overnight guest, you can pull down the wall bed and give them a comfortable place to sleep. Forget about your lumpy pull-out sofa; this is going to be a luxurious space for them to lay their heads.

A custom entertainment unit is another type of cabinet system that my clients often appreciate. They can be tailored to fit your television and include plenty of room for game consoles and sound system equipment.

My team can also add shelves and hidden storage spaces within the room. It boils down to finding a place to store the items your family likes to use without letting it contribute to a cluttered or disheveled appearance. You want to be able to feel comfortable in your living room, and a custom cabinet system of some sort will help.

Bathrooms and Utility Rooms

Finally, I recommend considering custom cabinet systems in your bathrooms and utility areas. These often already have small cabinets that a designer can do a lot with.

They give you tons of room to store linens, towels, toiletries, and everything else you’d normally store in a linen closet. Having a customized system will allow you to keep everything neat, tidy, and company-ready.

In the utility room, you can store cleaning supplies, a hamper, and more. My team can even build around your washer and dryer in the laundry room. We can help you make laundry and cleaning tasks easier, which helps you to keep your house tidier with less effort.

Conclusion

Contrary to popular belief, custom cabinet systems aren’t just for the bedroom. I recommend them in any room with clutter, whether it’s the home office, the living room, the kitchen, or the smaller areas, like bathrooms and utility rooms.
